Boxelder Bugs

Boxelder bugs ( Leptcoris trivittaus) are occasional invaders but if you're seeing more than one or two now and then, call us for a quote or complete the email form for quick response. 

Size: Adult, 1 to 2-inches long

Appearance:

  • adult, browish black
  • 3 red stripes on thorax
  • red veins on wings
  • nymphs are bright red

Life Cycle:

  • metamorphosis incomplete
  • eggs are laid on the leaves and bark of boxelder trees
  • eggs hatch when the young leaves appear in spring

Habits:

  • particular pest of boxelder trees
  • also occur maple, ash, and young fruit of apples, grapes and plums
  • does not do any damage when it enters homes but is a nuisance
